1. What does a pet sitter do?
Caring pet owners know that most pets adjust better to their owner's absence and experience less anxiety and stress when they can remain their home environments. Pet sitters make this possible with daily visits to your home. In addition to meals, exercise, playtime and cleaning litter boxes or cages, professional pet sitters may also administer medications, walk dogs and perform other pet-care duties. That's why in-home pet care is the choice of pet owners and the "pet-preferred" method of vacation and travel care. Pet sitters may also provide vital home-care services while you are away, including mail or newspaper pick up, plant care and watering, placing trash outside for pickup or rotating the lights and opening or closing the blinds to make your house look lived in. A professional pet sitter provides peace of mind for everyone.
2. What are the advantages for my pet?
Reduced Stress. Your pet stays in its own familiar secure environment where all the sights, smells and sounds say "Home!" Diet and Exercise. Customary diet and exercise routines are followed, with no interruption to upset your pet. No "Travel Trauma." Travel in a vehicle to boarding facility or kennel may upset your pet. Health Concerns. With a pet sitter, there is minimal exposure to illness of other animals. TLC. Most importantly, your pet receives love and personal attention while you are away.
3. What are the advantages for me?
Travel. You won't be inconvenienced or upset by transporting your pet. No Imposition. You don't have to impose on a friend, neighbor or relative to care for your pet, but instead rely on a pet care professional who will put you pet's needs first. Security. Your home is made more secure by the crime deterrent services provided by most pet-sitting services. Peace of Mind. While you're away, you can feel confident your pet is in capable, caring hands. Special Services. Pet sitters can provide additional home services while caring for your pet, such as watering plants and bringing in the mail.
4. Do you administer medication to pets?
Yes, we will administer medication pills, drops and/or injections with a vet’s written approval and directions. However, we will not administer medication to any animal that poses a danger to the sitter.
5. How many visits a day do you provide for pets?
That is your decision. For dogs, we recommend a minimum of two (2) visits per day. Most people request 2 or 3. It really depends on your dog's needs. For cats and other animals, we do a minimum of one (1) visit per day. We will not skip days.
6. How am I billed and when is it due?
100% of the fee is expected at the completion of the Get Acquainted meeting for first time clients.
All Balances must be paid in full prior to service or we have the right to refuse service. We currently only accept cash, personal checks, and payment via PayPal. We will not accept post-dated checks.
7. What do you do in case of an emergency?
It depends on the type of emergency. If something was to happen to your regular sitter, we have a backup sitter that can take over. If an emergency occurs with your pets, we will first contact your vet and transport them if necessary. You will then be contacted about the situation. If there is an emergency with your home, we will call you, your emergency contact and the appropriate authorities and/or a preferred repair service.
8. Do I have to give my pet sitter a key to my house?
In most cases, you are required to give your pet sitter a key. Not providing a key can actually cause delays in your pets' care. Here are some of the problems that can happen when a pet sitter doesn't have actual keys:
Keyless Entry "Keypads/Codes":
• Do not function in a blackout
• Have been known to malfunction
• Are not as secure as a completely locked house
Garage Door Openers:
• Occasionally openers can open the wrong garage and can put contents within at risk (Including pets, if pets are kept in the garage.)
• Have been known to malfunction
• As with exterior doors, the interior door between house and garage should remain locked for security (Without a key, this door has to remain unlocked, which increases security risks.)
Hidden Keys:
• Not secure: someone could find your hidden key
• Often keys are moved to a new hiding spot and the client forgets to inform their pet sitter
• The key needs to be kept dry as it can malfunction if it rusts (Lock smith call is charged to the client in such a case.)
